About Our Social Work Services

At Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton, social work services are provided by Master’s degree prepared clinicians who are members of the hospital’s multidisciplinary patient care team. Social workers provide counseling, information and assistance with care planning to patients and family members and can offer support or referrals for:

  • Anxiety, depression and other mental health issues
  • Grief, loss and end-of-life issues
  • Support in coping with a new illness or condition
  • Emotional support for family members impacted by a loved one’s illness
  • Violence, abuse or neglect in interpersonal relationships or the community
  • Alcohol or drug use
  • Assistance and support in connecting with community resources

For patients who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis, BID Milton has a long-standing partnership with South Shore Mental Health (SSMH). SSMH’s master’s degree level clinicians provide assessment and referral services to patients in the hospital’s Emergency Department and Inpatient Units.
