Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton Earns Another “A” Grade for Patient Safety in Spring 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton has been recognized for its commitment to patient safety with another “A” grade in the Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2017 Hospital Safety Score.

Leapfrog provides letter grades to hospitals nationwide based on how well they protect patients from preventable medical errors, injuries and infections. This is the fourth consecutive Leapfrog report in which BID-Milton has earned an “A” grade.

An “A” grade is one of the most significant honors a hospital can achieve and one of the most important indicators of patient safety. Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed and fully transparent.

According to Leapfrog, only approximately 30% of hospitals nationally earn an “A” grade.

“This award recognizes our staff’s ongoing commitment to safety, innovation and clinical excellence while striving to deliver the highest quality care and an extraordinary patient experience,” said Ashley Yeats, MD, vice president of healthcare quality and clinical integration and chief medical officer at BID-Milton.

Added Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group: “Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge in any hospital. We recognize and appreciate Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton’s vigilance and continued dedication to keeping its patients safe. This honor, conferred by the nation’s leading voice for hospital safety now in its 17th year of advocacy, is the recognized gold standard measure of a hospital’s success in keeping its patients from avoidable harm. All of the staff at BID-Milton should be proud of this achievement.”

In addition to the “A” grade from the Leapfrog Group, BID-Milton was recognized last August with a 4 star rating, on a scale of one to five, by Hospital Compare, a federal government, consumer-oriented website created by Medicare and the Hospital Quality Alliance. BID-Milton was the only hospital in the greater South Shore area to earn four stars. No hospital in the area achieved five stars.
