Serious medical conditions often require hospitalization in an intensive care unit or cardiac care unit (ICU/CCU) where patient conditions are monitored closely around the clock. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Milton's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) is an eight-bed unit equipped with the latest in acute care technology. Our critical care unit is staffed by a team of highly-skilled nurses and physicians ready to respond to fluctuations in patients' conditions. All ICU/CCU nurses maintain certification in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and have specialized credentials that enable them to care for critical care patients.
BID-Milton offers a spectrum of inpatient and outpatient cardiac services including EKG, exercise tolerance tests, cardiac nuclear medicine studies, echocardiography and cardiac rehabilitation. We encourage families to select one family member to act as spokesperson responsible for speaking with the nurses and relaying that information to the family. To inquire about hospitalized family members, calling hours are 10-11 a.m. and 9-10 p.m.
Visitor guidelines are designed to ensure the health, safety and privacy of our patients. While family member visits can be therapeutic for patients, rest is essential to their recovery. Visitors are welcome 24-hours a day. However, for the welfare of our ICU/CCU patients, visitors are limited to two immediate family members, 12 years of age or older, per patient. Visits should be brief, and please remember to contact the nurses beforehand using the telephone in the ICU/CCU waiting area. If you live out of town and would like to stay near the hospital, area hotels offer discounted rates. Please ask the nurse or call the hospital's patient advocate at ext. 1360 for a listing. After diagnosis is made, the patient's primary care physician and a physician who specializes in the treatment of his/her illness will establish a medical care plan.
